."Mythical
Bird’s Wing"
|
The symbol of
Angel Air conveys Thai identity and is in accordance with the name
"Angel Air", the new national airline. The symbol is the wing of
"Kinnari", a Thai female mythical creature, half-bird,
half-human angel. It is a well-rounded, Thai design, wing shape with main
colours of blue and green. The wing consists of 8 colour bands and each
part of the design has a meaning as explained by the artist.
|
The
well-rounded shape
|
|
represents prosperity and beauty.
|
|
The
navy blue band with tapering end
|
|
was inspired by the shape of the leaf of the Bhoti tree, a
symbol of Buddhism and represents a protection against evil as
well as a code of practice for the airline to
follow Buddhist morality of righteousness.
|
|
The
convergence point of the 8 colour bands
|
|
forms the head of a swan, a gold swan.
|
|
The
8 bands within the wing
|
|
represent, from a Chinese point of view, the 8 directions,
Taoist belief of powerful force and the abundance of nature.
Additionally, during the Ching Dynasty, whenever Emperor
Chernlong went to war he would arrange his army into 8
regiments, 8 divisions, 8 companies and flying 8 flags. This
helped to boost the moral of the soldiers and to insure a
victory. From a Thai point of view, the 8 bands represent the
"8 Paths" of Buddhist principles as follows:
1.
Good opinion
2. Good thought
3. Good speech
4. Good occupation
5. Good living
6. Perseverance
7. Good conscience and
8. Good intention

"
Kinnari wing "
|

The symbol of Angel Air is therefore the integration of Thai
Buddhist principles, Chinese Taoist philosophy and Thai art. In
summary it means the graceful emergence of an enterprise with a
promising future of prosperity.
